Katie McKay is a highly accomplished performing artist, known for her versatility and creativity. As a performer on viola and electric violin, she has a passion for presenting new and unique music, fusing aspects of music making from a wide variety of genres and cultures. Katie frequently performs around Australia in various chamber ensembles and symphony orchestras, and has spent the last year collaborating and studying with artists in New York thanks to the generous support of the Australia Council and the WA Department of Culture and the Arts. Katie has received music degrees from the University of Western Australia and the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, and has held full-scholarship positions at the Australian National Academy of Music and the Manhattan School of Music. She is also an accomplished researcher specialising in the development of socialist realism in Soviet music, and a passionate music educator.
